Background Checks Required for Volunteers vs. Visitors

Posted Date: 10/14/26 (03:52 PM)

Cloverdale Families,

Thank you for your continued support in making our school community such a wonderful place for our students!  We love having parent involvement and appreciate all the time you dedicate to our school. To ensure the safety and well-being of all students, we require a completed background check for any adult volunteering in roles where they interact & directly support our students.

A background check IS required when:
  • Chaperoning on field trips
  • Assisting with classroom parties
  • Volunteering in the classroom
  • Helping with special events during school hours
A background check is NOT required when:
  • Visiting the school to have lunch with your child
  • Attending a school assembly, performance, or awards ceremony
  • Watching an event from the audience (jog-a-thon)
  • Attending after school events such as Harvest Gathering, conferences, family nights, etc.
In summary, if you are at school to watch or visit your own child, you are a visitor. If you are there to help out or supervise students, you are a volunteer.

If you plan to volunteer for any interactive activities this school year, please complete your background check as soon as possible, as processing can take several days.
Complete your background check here at this link.  If you have any questions or are unsure whether your planned activity requires a background check, please reach out to the main office at 503.749.8050. Thank you for helping us keep our school safe!

Note: All visitors must still check in at the main office with a valid photo ID and wear a visitor badge while on campus.

Thanks so much,
Julia Bradley
